  • Camouflage

    Camouflage - Space Coast Preppers.com

The most commonly sold camouflage for civilians might be Real Tree or Mossy Oak, its primary purpose: blending in during a hunt (or just stylin’ at the mall). But when we think of camouflage for survival, our mindset must change. This article draws heavily on the US Army’s FM20-3 – Camouflage manual, but I’ve adopted [...]

  • Heirloom

Here’s a question… Would you rather eat a near perfectly round tomato that looks good but has a tough skin and tastes bland? Or would you rather eat a misshaped tomato of varying color and texture but tastes mouth-watering good? There are basically two types of seed… …open-pollinated (pollinated naturally in the wild) …and hybrid [...]

If We Cannot See Bread Lines, Do They Exist? - Space Coast Preppers.com

Do you think that as a country we are not facing similar ‘food line’ problems as those during the Great Depression of the 1930′s? Think again… The difference today being that it is hidden from our view. Since perception is reality, then the reality must be that there is no problem. Right? Wrong…   Food [...]

  • All About Wheat

When most people begin to store food they begin with wheat. Why is that? Not everyone knows how to use wheat but may have heard that it is good to store, so that is where they begin. It is true–wheat is great to store. But what kind of wheat? How should it be stored? Once [...]

  • The Freeze Drying Process

    Oregon-Freeze-Dry_Freeze-Drying-Process

During the freeze-drying process, fresh or cooked foods are first flash frozen when the food tastes its best. Moisture is then removed in a vacuum chamber, where a low-level heat is applied to evaporate the ice without returning it to a liquid form. Since the product remains frozen during the process, the product’s cell structures [...]

Having an evacuation plan is very important for your family. In an emergency, every second counts, so you want to be as prepared as possible. • Essential Pet Preparedness In Case of Emergency

Pets are often called man’s best friend and, at times, are the most loyal family member around. Americans are crazy about their pets and we at 1-800-PREPARE want to make sure that all members of your brood, canines and felines included, are safe when disasters occur. Last Tuesday was FEMA’s Animal Disaster Preparedness Day where the federal government urged animal owners to take the opportunity to make sure pets are prepared and that owners have everything needed in case of emergency. We do have pet survival and emergency preparedness kits available on our website, but here are some additional and equally important tips to help keep your beloved animal safe from harm’s way, according to FEMA. 1) Make sure your pet can be properly identified with an embedded microchip or with a collar ID tag containing up-to-date contact information. 2) Carry a recent, good quality picture of your animal in case you get separated during evacuation. Take time to learn where your pet hides when he/she is scared. Lessening the time it takes to find your animal when evacuating can be critical. 3) If evacuating, think about taking a crate or pet transport carrier so your animal is safe during travel. 4) Put a pet rescue decal prominently outside your home so first responders know that an animal is inside. Also put your veterinarian’s contact information on the decal. 5) Make sure to know where you can go if you need to evacuate your area. Many shelters do not take animals unless it is of a service kind.Find pet friendly hotels and motels in advance. Ask friends or family if they would consider housing you and/or your animal in case of emergency. 6) Always have an emergency kit prepared for your pet including a three day supply of pet food in a waterproof container and bottled water, first aid supplies, a leash or safety harness, your animals medications and medical records, waste clean-up supplies, a contact list ofwith your veterinarian's information, a list of your animal's feeding routine and schedule, toys and a blanket. By taking care of your pet's needs in advance, you can ensure that your animal will be as comfortable as possible in case of an emergency.
